Gas Prices Rise Ahead Of Holiday Travel

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in the Inland Empire rose today for the fifth time in six days, increasing a half-cent to $3.142.

The average price in Riverside and San Bernardino counties is 3.6 cents more than a week ago, 2.2 cents more than a month ago and 18.5 cents more than this time last year, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

Throughout the Palm Springs area and the Coachella Valley, prices surged past the $3.00 mark for one gallon.

The average price is seven-tenths of a cent less than the high for the year, $3.149, reached May 9.

The average price rose 1.6 cents Friday, 1 cent Saturday, 1.2 cents Sunday and six-tenths of a cent Monday and fell four-tenths of a cent Tuesday.
