High Winds, Cooler Temperatures To Blow Into Valley

Forecasters were keeping their eyes on a storm system moving into southwest California late Friday and into Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

The large upper level trough of low pressure is going to sweep across Southern California, and a couple of rain-making impulses will come in with it.

The first wave should hit Saturday with rain, possible heavy at times. Showers will taper off by late Saturday, and a second wave could bring more precipitation into Monday.

Along with precipitation, the storm system is expected tobring much cooler air with strong gusty winds in the mountains and deserts.

Here in the Coachella Valley, forecasters only expect a quarter-of-an-inch of rain, but the amount increases as you head west.

The snow-fall level will drop. It will start at 7,000 feet in elevation and drop to about 4500 feet by Monday. Snow accumulations near the Tram and surrounding mountains could hit 6-to-12 inches.
