Two-Legged Dog Looks For Home With Big Heart
A two-legged Chihuahua dropped off at a Riverside animal shelter is doing fine despite his disability and has a “lot of love to give” anyone interested in adopting him, a county Animal Services spokesman said today.
The 4-month-old puppy was brought into the Western Riverside County Animal Shelter on Thursday as a stray, according to John Welsh of the Department of Animal Services.
He said the black Chihuahua, which has only his hind legs and stumps for front ones, immediately charmed animal control technicians. they named him “Roo,” short for kangaroo.
“He moved around quite well for a disabled doggy,” said Welsh, describing Roo as a tiny canine with a “big heart.”
It’s unclear how the dog lost his front legs, but animal control officers suspect it may have happened during an attack by larger animals.
“He’s got a lot of love to give,” Welsh said.
The pup will be vaccinated, neutered and microchipped for future identification, according to Welsh, who said the dog can be adopted at the county’s standard rate — $105.
The shelter is at 6851 Van Buren Blvd. More information about the adoption process is available by calling the Department of Animal Services at (951) 358-7387.
