Final Results Released From Riverside Registrar Of Voters
The Riverside County Registrar of Voters released final numbers from the November 2 General Election Wednesday afternoon with many races still very close.
In all 857,856 votes were counted at the headquarters in Riverside.
Among the close races in the Coachella Valley was the Coachella City Council race. Throughout the counting process, rankings of who was taking the two city council seats up for grabs changed almost on a daily basis.
In the Indian Wells City Council race, Mary Roche held onto her strong lead throughout the vote count, but Ted Mertens and Patrick Mullany changed places often as vote totals were slowly released.
With the final numbers released, the unofficial tally looks like this:
Mertens told News Channel 3 on Tuesday he may seek a recount.
The Indio City Council race turned out to be a fluctuating race, as well. In the end, Elaine Holmes, Michael Wilson and Sam Torres were the unofficial winners, but only a few votes separated Torres from Ben Godfrey.
By law, a request for recount must be filed with the Registrar of Voters office within five days after election results are certified. If results were certified today, the deadline for requesting a recount would have been Monday. With the intervening holiday affecting schedules for most people within the community, certifying the results on Friday gives anyone contemplating a recount request until Wednesday (Dec. 1) to file, three days after the Registrar’s office reopens following the holiday weekend.
