State Issues Alert For Missing 15-Year-Old

It’s not an Amber Alert, but the state is posting electronic messages on highways across Northern California about a missing Redding teen.

The Caltrans signs are normally used to notify motorists about road conditions and broadcast statewide Amber Alerts for critical child abduction cases.

Authorities looking for 15-year-old Jean Marie Berlinghoff haven’t issued an Amber Alert, but concern over the case prompted the unusual step of asking Caltrans for help.

The Record-Searchlight of Redding reports that investigators believe the teenager was taken Nov. 10 by her uncle, Charles Berlinghoff, who was once convicted of misdemeanor child molestation.

The signs ask drivers to look out for a 1987 Oldsmobile with the license plate 2DNX546. The message will stay up through the Thanksgiving weekend.
