Spa Resort Casino Shuts Down Poker Room, Unknown Laid Off
The Poker Room at the Spa Resort Casino in Palm Springs was shuttered today, resulting in an unspecified number of layoffs.
“We closed the Poker Room, so obviously that staff has to find another place to go. We’re trying to absorb who we can,” said casino spokeswoman Therese Everett-Kerley.
The Poker Room will be transformed into a non-smoking slot machine area, according to Everett-Kerley, who declined to release the number of employees let go.
The changeover should take two to three weeks, she said, adding that the poker room closure was “an operational decision.”
“We don’t comment on finances,” Everett-Kerley added.
A separate Poker Room at the Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa in Rancho Mirage, which is also owned by the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, was expanded and reopened Oct. 1. That one remains open, she said.
