All Lanes Re-Open On I-10 After Accident In Cathedral City

A person was thrown from an SUV and seriously injured today in a rollover crash that injured five others on Interstate 10 in Cathedral City.

The crash was reported at 2:02 p.m. on eastbound Interstate 10 near Date Palm Drive, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Donovan Rice.

The driver of a Ford Expedition lost control of the vehicle, which rolled over and threw one of the occupants from the SUV, Rice said.

Another occupant was trapped in the vehicle and suffered moderate to major injuries, he said.

Four other people in the SUV had minor to moderate injuries, according to Rice.

News Channel 3 Assistant News Director Tim Kiley drove by the scene and saw 20 to 25 cars pulled over and drivers who had jumped out to help.

Several of those were off duty firefighters and nurses.

He asked the CHP about this and was told that if you feel you can assist, they encourage you to do so until emergency personnel arrive.

The most important thing said CHP Officer John Quintero is that if you are the witness to a crash and think you might have seen something, please call dispatch and leave them your number so that an investigator can get back to you.
