Charges Dropped In Sanchez Stabbing Case

The Los Angeles County District Attorney dropped its case against the two men accused of stabbing Steve Sanchez, a former State Assembly candidate.

Prosecutors said there’s not enough evidence to prove the stabbing wasn’t a case of self-defense.

Sanchez was placed in a medically induced coma for almost two days as a result of the stabbing.

He’s lost a lot of weight and more than two pints of blood.

“I really feel that the judicial system has let me down, and I understand now why people lose their faith and confidence in our system,” said Sanchez. “Those definitely the two guys that stabbed me, yes. correct.”

Sanchez said he was not happy with the reason’s the District Attorney will not file charges.

“First they’re claiming self defense, which to me is preposterous, because they came into a home they weren’t invited to,” said Sanchez. “The other one also is that the DA had too many stories.”

When asked if he remembered actually getting stabbed, Sanchez said, “I do not remember being stabbed. They only time that I realized that I was stabbed is, after the scuffle, I noticed that I had sharp pains in my side. I opened my sweater and I saw that my blood was pouring out.”

Sanchez was at his friend Gabriel’s house in Whitter on Dec. 5 celebrating a birthday party.

Gabriel owns the house — he was also stabbed.

Sanchez said Gabriel asked Jonathan Moran, 27, of Highland, Raymond Martinez, 29, of Rancho Cucamonga to leave the party because they were uninvited guests.

The three got into an argument near the porch.

Authorities then say Gabriel flashed what looked like a shotgun.

The DA’s office said that the shotgun was actually a pellet gun, but it was never fired.

“By the time I got to my buddy, I did not see the BB gun. They had already been engaged in the scuffle,” said Sanchez. “So, that’s when I came in. So, I learned of the BB gun after the fact — after I recovered from my wounds.”

Moran is the one accused of actually stabbing both Sanchez and his friend.

But he will walk free and so will Martinez; both have claimed self-defense.

“I’m not gonna let this end,” said Sanchez. “I’m actively seeking a criminal and civil lawyer. I’m not sure which one I need yet. But, I cannot let evil triumph over good.”

Sanchez said his friend Gabriel also plans on pursuing civil charges.

In the meantime, both are still nursing serious injuries.
