Gusty Winds Expected To Hit Palm Springs Area Overnight

A strong cold front pushed through Southern California on Wednesday, bringing a good amount of rain to the Los Angeles area, and a small amount to the Coachella Valley, according to the National Weather Service.

One person was killed and a snowboarder is missing after the system unleashed rain on an already soggy California. While the downpours cut power to thousands and closed some roads and highways, the storm spared the state significant new mudflows.

But it appeared that was just half of a second wintry storm moving through the area. The other half will take place overnight, bringing high winds to the Coachella Valley and mountain areas.

A high wind warning is in effect until 4 a.m. Thursday for the San Bernardino County Mountains, Riverside County Mountains, Apple and Lucerne Valleys in the high desert, according to the NWS.

Winds in those areas will be sustained at 35-to-45-miles-per-hour with gusts up to 65-miles-per-hour.

Forecasters predicted tough driving conditions, and predicted there could be damage, such as broken tree limbs, downed trees and power lines.

In the Coachella Valley, the desert cities are under a high wind advisory until 4 a.m. Thursday, with winds expected to stay around 35-miles-per-hour.
