Meeting The Volunteers Of The Bob Hope Classic: Diane Burton

Diane Burton had no plans to volunteer for The Bob Hope Classic. She was waiting patiently for her husband to sign up, but then the organizers approached her. “I was sitting in the waiting room, and they came out and said ‘we want you too,” said Burton. “I went in, they interviewed me, and that’s when I started and I haven’t looked back.”

This January’s Hope marks her eleventh year volunteering. The other volunteers at the Hope have become a second family to her. “We just love doing it, it’s wonderful walking out there, the beautiful golf courses, the wonderful people we’ve met,” said Burton. “Every year we go back, we see people that we haven’t seen for a whole year!”

Not only does Burton enjoy being around the other volunteers, but she loves taking tips from the golfers. An avid golfer herself, she has tried to pick up hints and tricks from the professionals each year. “It makes me want to golf more,” said Burton.

A chance opportunity led her to a decade of memories, and she hasn’t looked back since.
