Vegas, Weekley Share Lead At Bob Hope Classic

Boo Weekley shot a 6-under 66 in windy conditions Thursday for a share of the second-round lead with rookie Jhonattan Vegas in the Bob Hope Classic.

Vegas had a 67 to match Weekley at 13-under 131 in the 90-hole tournament on four prestigious La Quinta courses. Charles Howell III (66) and Chris Couch (65) were a stroke back.

Vegas is a Venezuelan playing in just his fifth PGA Tour event. He bogeyed his final hole on the Nicklaus Private course. Weekley birdied the same hole moments later to finish his round, professing gratitude for a new putter.

The tournament typically is dominated by low scores, and both leaders won’t be surprised if the winner of the five-round event checks in at 30 under par.

Celebrities wrap up their games on Saturday.
