High Wind Advisory Issued For Coachella Valley

The High Wind Warning issued for the Coachella Valley was canceled on Wedneday by The National Weather Service, and replaced with the lower-scale high wind advisory. The High Wind Warning was still in effect for the Riverside and San Bernardino County mountains.

Forecasters were focusing on a time frame ranging from Tuesday night through Wednesday afternoon when winds in the northern Coachella Valley could have seen sustained winds of 20 to 30 miles-per-hour with gusts of 55 miles-per-hour or higher.

With the wind could come reduced visibility, such as it did last Sunday when another burst of wind kicked up sand and dust, resulting in the closures of three major streets in Palm Springs.

Forecasters said visibility over the next few days could be reduced to a quarter mile or less in some areas, making driving conditions in wash areas very dangerous.

On Interstate 10, motorists with high-profile vehicles will have to pay close attention to current conditions, especially while driving through the mountain passes.

NWS also advises people to be aware of possible broken tree limbs, downed power lines and blowing dust.
