Indio Mother Dies After Alleged Beating By Son

Indio police announced on Wednesday the mother who was badly beaten as part of a family argument on Monday has died.

Ofelia Guzman, 51, passed away at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs at around 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, according to the Riverside County Coroner.

Ben Guitron, spokesman for the Indio Police Department, told News Channel 3 Daniel Castro, 28, had ran off after attacking the woman at around 7:30 a.m. Monday on the 46600 block of Baltimore Street in Indio’s Colony Park neighborhood.

The address sits three blocks away from the Indio Police Department.

Castro was apprehended by Indio police officer around 4:15 p.m. on Monday on Hoover Street, west of Monroe near Herbert Hoover Elementary School.
