Palm Springs Council Considers Draft Resolution Opposing Governor

The Palm Springs City Council meets tonight and is expected to enact a $1.3 million agreement for street maintenance and hold a public hearing on a use permit for a food bank for seniors, according to the City Council agenda.

The city is scheduled to approve a deal with Hardy & Harper, Inc. of Santa Ana as part of its annual asphalt overlay project.

Each year, the city puts money aside in order to repave several streets that have deteriorated. This year’s program will improve residential areas between North Indian Canyon Drive and Sunrise Way, from Vista Chino to Alejo Road, according to the agenda.

The City Council will also hold a public forum concerning a permit for the planned Desert Sun Center, a food bank and distribution facility for the economically disadvantaged and disabled senior citizens at 610 S. Belardo Rd.

The council will also accept the resignations of a member of its planning and sustainability commissions — William Scott and Kerry Hendrix, respectively, and draft a resolution opposing Gov. Jerry Brown’s proposal to eliminate redevelopment agencies.
