Palm Desert Considers YMCA Managing New Aquatic Center

The Palm Desert City Council today will vote whether to authorize the YMCA to manage the city’s new aquatic center.

If approved by the City Council today at 4 p.m. during its bi-montly meeting, Family YMCA of the Desert would operate the Palm Desert Aquatics Center.

The contract would award YMCA $101,871 to cover start-up costs, according to the City Council agenda.

The Palm Desert Aquatics Center is being built at the northeast corner of Civic Center Park. It will include an Olympic-size pool with diving platforms, a splash pool, a therapy pool and a multi-purpose room.

During the meeting, the City Council also likely will vote to approve a contract for $35,000 to finance the city’s Fourth of July celebration and fireworks show. It also is expected to enact a one-year lease agreement with Donna Piszczor for the operation of a remote-controlled car racetrack on Painters Path, just off El Paseo.
