Coachella police were searching for two outstanding suspects on Friday in connection with a carjacking.

The carjacking was reported at 7:12 p.m. on Thursday in the area of 52nd Avenue and Empalme Street in Coachella, said police spokeswoman Herlinda Valenzuela.

The victim was approached by three Hispanic men and hit over the head with a hand gun. He was taken to a local hospital, where he should be okay.

Police officers spotted the vehicle Thursday night pulling into the Cardenas Market parking lot on Harrison Street and Avenue 50.

When they approached it, the men inside ran from the vehicle and toward three nearby stores.

One suspect ran into an ice cream shop and was detained. Another suspect ran into the Cardenas Market and a third into the 99 Cent Store. Those suspects are still at large.

Both suspects were considered armed and dangerous.
