Locomotive Catches Fire As It Rolls Through Banning
It may have appeared as though an entire train was on fire as it rolled into Banning, but it was just the locomotive, and Riverside County firefighters kept it that way, a county fire spokeswoman said.
The burning freight train was heading westbound along the San Bernardino (10) Freeway, passing Hargrave Street at 3:04 p.m. Sunday before it stopped and firefighters attacked the flames, said Melody Hendrickson of the Riverside County Fire Department.
No one was injured, and what caused the engine to catch fire was under investigation, she said.
