Yucca Valley Father Arrested For Filing False Report, Cruelty To A Child

A Yucca valley father faced criminal charges on Wednesday after a police investigation revealed he may have filed a false police report when he called to report his 5-and-3-year-old children missing on Tuesday.

Sgt. Trevis Newport with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said Raymond Leon Lain called 911 around 8:50 p.m. on Tuesday reporting his 5-year-old son was missing.

Deputies began a preliminary search, which culminated with several agencies pitching in manpower and equipment to look for the little boy.

The Morongo Basin Search and Rescue team, Sheriff’s Aviation Division, and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Detail got involved. Several concerned citizens also assisted in the search, as the result of an automated “A Child is Missing” broadcast was announced from the helicopters and passing patrol cars.

The search also focused on Lain’s 3-year-old daughter who was discovered missing later in the investigation.

After several hours of investigation and searching, Lain’s home was searched, and investigators discovered the reported missing children were actually at the residence of a family friend, Newport said..

It was also discovered Lain possibly had knowledge of the whereabouts of the involved children, while reporting the children missing with law enforcement.

Lain was booked at the Morongo Basin Jail for making a false report of a missing child/person, and cruelty to a child. His bail has been set at $100,000.
