‘American Idol’s’ Kellie Pickler Headlines Riverside County Fair

Former ”American Idol” contestant Kellie Pickler will be featured tonight at the 65th annual Riverside County Fair & National Date Festival.

Pickler, a country singer launched into fame by the television show, will perform at 8 p.m. in the Fantasy Springs Concert Pavilion. Some of her hits include “Red High Heels” and ”Don’t You Know You’re Beautiful.”

The fair opened Friday and continues through Feb. 27. More than 300,000 people are expected to attend.

In the same spirit as Pickler’s performance, a countywide amateur vocal contest will be held at noon at Aladdin’s Bazaar Stage.

Other events today include ostrich and camel races at 1 p.m. and a Bull- O-Rama rodeo at 5:30 p.m., both at the Grandstand Arena.

The price of Pickler’s concert and all the events is included in fair admission.

“The Date Festival is a great occasion for people around the valley, and around the county, to come together for a good time,” county Supervisor John Benoit said. “If you’ve already enjoyed the annual attraction, this fair promises to be another unforgettable experience.”

Gates open at 10 a.m. and close at 10 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors and $6 for children. Children under 5 are admitted free.
