Eastbound I-10 Shut Down Overnight For Next Three Nights

Part of eastbound Interstate 10 in Cathedral City and Rancho Mirage will be closed for three nights, beginning at 11 tonight, as road crews tweak an interchange.

The stretch between Date Palm Drive in Cathedral City and Ramon Road in Rancho Mirage will be closed from 11 p.m. until about 5 a.m., and again Wednesday and Thursday, said Kathy Boltz of Caltrans.

Drivers will be taken off the freeway at Date Palm and routed around the work, she said, adding that the delay was likely to cost motorists about 20 minutes.

The project is part of the new eight-lane Bob Hope Drive freeway overpass and reconfiguring the freeway access roads near the Agua Caliente Resort Spa.

The extension of Bob Hope Drive over Interstate 10, connecting to Varner Road, is one improvement planned. A six-lane bridge over the railroad tracks will also be added.

Varner Road will be widened, and Rio Del Sol Road will be realigned. All Ramon Road access road — except for the eastbound freeway onramp — will be removed.

The $25.5 million project is planned for completion by early 2012.
