Indio Police Offer $10,000 Reward In Child’s Shooting
Indio city leaders announced a $10,000 reward on Wednesday for information leading to the arrest of the people involved in the shooting of a 5-year-old boy on Monday.
A bullet hit the boy in the upper abdomen about 5:45 p.m. Monday when people in two cars were shooting at one another while racing down John Nobles Avenue.
“Somebody knows something. That’s factual. We just need a few of those people to come forward with the information so we can bring the person responsible or persons responsible to justice,” said Chief of Police Brad Ramos.
The boy was in his front yard in the 46500 block of Monte Verde Street — about a block from the Riverside County Fair and National Date Festival — when he was hit by one of about six shots fired between two cars, Indio police spokesman Ben Guitron said.
After surgery yesterday, his condition was upgraded, he said.
News Channel 3 learned on Wednesday the boy could be home by next week.
The reward money comes from asset seizure money, according Guitron. That money comes from street gangs as police crack down on them throughout the city.
The boy lives in a gang injunction zone. Though the shooting has the hallmarks of a gang attack, police were not saying if they believed the suspects were gang members.
Anyone with more information was asked to call the Indio police at (760) 391-4057, or Valley Crime Stoppers at (760) 341-STOP.
