Cathedral City Man Accused Of Threatening FBI Agent

A Cathedral City man pleaded not guilty today in Los Angeles to a federal charge of threatening to kill an FBI agent.

Clay Charles Triolo, 55, was taken into custody Feb. 24 on suspicion of threatening, in a telephone message, to kill an FBI agent and could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted, FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said.

A U.S. magistrate judge set trial in Los Angeles federal court for April 19 before U.S. District Judge R. Gary Klausner.

Triolo was indicted by a federal grand jury and charged with one count of threatening a federal law enforcement officer.

The indictment alleges that “on or about Nov. 16 in Riverside County, Triolo threatened to assault and murder a federal law enforcement officer, namely an agent with the FBI, with the intent to impede, intimidate and interfere with the FBI agent while the FBI agent was engaged in the performance of official duties.”

Triolo was sent to a substance abuse facility after his initial federal court appearance in Riverside two weeks ago, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
