Palm Springs Makes List Of Top Places To Own A Second Home

Barron’s financial magazine released its list of Top Second-Home Communities on Monday with Palm Springs making the list.

The list ranked the top 15 resort areas in the United States in terms of where to find the best buy in today[‘s luxury real estate market.

The coastal community of Sea Island, Ga. topped this year’s list, with Barron’s citing that Sea Island is “breathtakingly beautiful-both the seaside landscape and the classically designed homes.” In addition, former Secretary of the Treasury Henry Paulson has a home in the community, so buyers can take comfort in the resort’s financials.

Considerations for the ranking include attributes such as beauty, comfort, convenience, a range of lifestyles and – most importantly – value. The list also takes into account home prices that have hit bottom and are either rising or expected to rise.

For the Palm Springs area, the magazine wrote, “Bob Hope and Dinah Shore would hardly recognize the old place. Late 20th century development spawned the local golf and tennis meccas of Palm Desert, La Quinta and Indian Wells, home of the Vintage Club, the most exclusive golf and tennis community around. Its award-winning Tom Fazio-designed links are surrounded by pristine lakes on 712 acres of plush oasis. Privacy and seclusion are the big differentiators at the Vintage Club, which boasts security systems designed specifically to keep the paparazzi at bay. Residents are said to include Bill Gates and Denzel Washington.”
