Major Hollywood Film To Be Shot In Desert Fashion Plaza

Kimberly Lynn surrounded the front doors of the Desert Fashion Plaza with yellow tape on Tuesday. She is the building’s gatekeeper for a film project.

The empty mall is now a movie set.

“I was so excited because we love to work,” she said. “We want films to come to Palm Springs more often.” Lynn is the film’s location coordinator.

The producers asked News Channel 3 not to reveal who’s starring in the film. But, they allowed us to reveal the title: “Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie.”

The movie’s main characters become businessmen in an abandoned mall.

“Big names! Big explosions!” said Lynn. “We’re gonna have some fun! We’re excited!”

When asked about the scheduled explosions, Lynn declined to elaborate. “Oh, I can’t. It’s a secret.”

Filming begins next week.

Local crew members are happy about having a job.

“When I hear about a movie coming locally, that’s the biggest treat to be able to go just two miles and be at work,” said Dan Dorfer, the film’s paint boss. “That’s a dynamite thing!”

To make room for the film production, plaza owner John Wessman postponed tearing down the building next door, the Palm Spring Pavilion.

Demoliton on the pavilion will begin April 6.

More than 60 crew members eventually will be working on the film. They’ll be pumping money into local businesses since most of them are coming from Los Angeles.

“We’re going to all the little shops–the mom and pops–that we can get to,” Dorfer said.

The film’s producers didn’t want News Channel 3 to reveal too much of what the fashion plaza will look like in the movie.

But, it may be the best it’s looked in a very long time.
