Cathedral City Police Arrest Two In Gang-Related Shooting, Gunman On The Loose

A Cathedral City man and a 16-year old were arrested on Tuesday as part of a gang task force investigation into a recent shooting between rival gang members, police said.

The arrests came as Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force detectives investigated an unreported shooting that happened in the area of Avenida Juarez and Aliso Rd in Cathedral City.

A person who wished to remain anonymous told police the shooting was gang-related. The victim was an active member of Barrio Dream Homes street gang, and the suspect, a was documented member from Barrio Cathedral City gang. which are rival gangs.

Detectives obtained a search warrant to look for possible evidence at a home on the 31800 blk of Avenida Juarez. There, they said, the found a sawed-off shotgun in a bedroom and ammunition in a juvenile’s bedroom.

They said there were several items of Barrio Cathedral City gang paraphernalia found in the home, which they said proved gang membership and affiliation.

Angel Monroy, Sr., was arrested for possessing the illegal firearm, and an unnamed 16-year-old male was arrested for possessing ammunition as a minor.
