High Speed Chase Ends Near Whitewater After Winding Through Valley
Two people were in custody after a high speed chase that started in Indio and ended north of Palm Springs, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The chase began just before 11 a.m. when officers with one of the area’s task forces tried to pull over a wanted parolee who was driving a truck at Fred Waring and Clinton, said Indio Police spokesman Ben Guitron.
The driver, who was considered armed and dangerous, refused to pull over and headed westbound on Interstate 10 with Indio police and CHP officers in pursuit, reaching speeds of 90 miles-per-hour.
The truck turned onto city streets of Desert Hot Springs, dodging spike strips set up by police and turning onto dirt roads to lose them.
The driver then headed south into Palm Springs on Indian Canyon at 100 miles-per-hour.
The driver then brought police up Highway 111 toward Interstate 10, where the driver finally gave up, and stopped near Tipton Road, said CHP officer Scott Beauchene.
KESQ tweeted play-by-play of the chase on Twitter in an effort to warn people who may be in the path of the chase.
Residents in cities along the chase route responded with accounts of what they saw.
“I was standing outside the workforce center when the car and about 10 police cars chased him through the intersection entering the freeway,” one of KESQ’s followers wrote.
“Can hear the sirens. Hope they don’t come by my home,” wrote another.
