Casey Abrams Shoots For The Stars On American Idol

At first glance, Casey Abrams appears a bit shy, hiding behind a thick beard and full head of hair, but once he hits the stage, it’s bye-bye mountain man,and hello charismatic Daddy-o!

These days, the 19-year-old says he’s as confident as ever.

“I feel incredible like i can do anything,” he said.

American Idol Associate Music Director Michael Orland agreed.

“He’s fabulous,” he said. “I would say he needs to work on anything more than just being himself. He’s got a tremendous talent and knows what he needs to do.”

He has a lot of support, especially from his hometown of idyllwild. Casey tells us, they’re estatic! “I think they’re really happy for me.”

He keeps busy every summer working with high school students at the Idyllwild Arts Film-Making Summer Program.

“I love film the kids,” he said. “I edit behind-the-scenes, so parents can see what they’ve been doing.”

Right now, he’s entirely focused on bringing the Idol crown home to Idyllwild, and he knows that means being a standout.

“I want there to be a different note and a sense of improv in it that makes it fresh. And it makes it less boring for me,” he said. “That’s why I love jazz. You have to form. Then you just solo over that.”

We asked what he wants to say to the judges? Why should they pick him? Why should America keep picking him?

Casey jokingly said, “because I have an awesome beard. That’s all that’s all you need to know!”
