One Shot In Indio
A man was shot in Indio Wednesday during a fight near the Riverside County Fairgrounds.
It happened just after 6:45 p.m in the area of Daisy Street and Garden Avenue.
The victim was shot in the lower torso.
But authorities say it was a single gunshot wound, and the man suffered non-life threatening injuries.
The police have since cleared the scene and so have we, because residents tell us the area is not safe.
Investigators say a fight broke out among a group of people.
When the first responding officer arrived on-scene, he saw a bunch of people scatter the area.
It was later learned that prior to the police response, a man was driven to the hospital by someone else, with a non-life threatening gunshot wound.
But authorities say he is uncooperative and doesn’t want help from police.
So, authorities can’t speak with the victim’s doctors or access his medical records.
Police say they’ll follow up on the case, but that there’s not much more they can do.
That lack of cooperation is upsetting to Adam De Leon.
He lives just a block away from the shooting, and just one month ago, his 4-year-old son was shot on his front lawn, caught in the crossfire of another shooting.
His son lived and is doing fine.
But De Leon said, “when’s it gonna stop?”
