Disney Cruise Ship Docks Missing An Employee
The British parents of a missing 24-year-old Disney Cruise Line employee, who disappeared Tuesday off the coast of Mexico, planned to meet with investigators and board the ship to collect their daughter’s belongings and continue their search for answers.
Rebecca Coriam, whose homtown is Chester, England, was last seen when the Disney Wonder was steaming off Cabos San Lucas en route to Puerto Vallarta. She was seen early Tuesday and made a phone call to friend, but never showed up for work as part of the ship’s youth program.
Coriam’s parents, Michael and Ann, spoke with reporters while they were waiting for the ship to dock.
“We just don’t know what happened…that’s the worst. We’ve got to find out what happened,” Ann Coriam told ABC7.
“It’s just really painful,” Michael Coriam told ABC7. “The thought of not seeing her again…I don’t know …it’s just really funny to think about it, really.”
Because the ship flies a flag of convenience and is registered in Bahamas, police from Nassau are handling the investigation. The Mexican Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard also are involved.
“The investigation is being carried out in accordance with the international and national requirement with the cooperation of the vessel’s owners and relevant coastal states. The investigation remains ongoing and further information will be provided as the case progresses,” said the Royal Bahamas Police Force in a public statement issued today.
Disney Cruise Line representatives have also issued a statement, expressing their concern for Coriam and saying they were doing everything in their power to find her.
“Given the circumstances we are very concerned about this situation and are doing everything possible to assist with the search effort and investigation. We have also conducted a thorough and comprehensive inspection of the ship and spoken with the crew member’s colleagues to gather as much information as possible,” said Disney in their public statement.
“We didn’t know if Rebecca had fallen overboard or what, just that the ship had been thoroughly searched,” Coriam’s mother, Ann Coriam, told ABC7. “We’d asked whether the police were onboard and we were told `no’ at that stage.”
The ship is nearly 1,000 feet long and carries about 2,500 passengers and 1,000 crew members.
