Coachella Man Arrested For Child Abuse, Toddler In Critical Condition
An 18-month-old Coachella child was in critical condition with head injuries, and the mother’s boyfriend faces charges, a sheriff’s sergeant said.
The child was in the care of the mother’s boyfriend, Adan Diaz Orozco, 23, of Coachella, when it was brought into John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Indio with injuries consistent with child abuse, said Riverside County Sheriff’s Sgt. Todd Torrenti.
The toddler’s gender was not released.
Doctor’s determined that the child had received serious head trauma and was air-lifted to Loma Linda Hospital for treatment.
Torrenti said deputies were called to the hospital at 9:18 p.m. Saturday by workers who spotted a possible child abuse victim. After further investigation and interviews, deputies arrested Orozco.
Orozco was booked into the County Jail in Indio for suspicion of child abuse, Torrenti said.
Torrenti asked anyone with information about the incident to call Investigator Ron Waters of the Central Homicide Unit at (951) 955-2777, or Investigator Jorge Ramirez of the Coachella Police Department at (760) 863- 8990.
