Vacant Cathedral City Gas Station Demolished

A gas station that has sat vacant in Cathedral City for several years is scheduled to be demolished beginning today, a city spokesman said.

The Shell station on the corner of East Palm Canyon and Date Palm Drive is located on Indian lease land. It will be coming down as a result of a partnership between the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, city spokesman Allen Howe said.

“The abandoned gas station has been a visual blight in the downtown core for some time and its removal is another step forward in revitalizing the downtown area,” Cathedral City mayor Kathleen DeRosa said.
