Two Teenagers Arrested For Burglarizing Home As Family Slept

Palm Desert police arrested two teenagers on Tuesday night after a nearby home was broken into and the residents had weapons pointed at them.

Sgt. David Florez said around 11:45 p.m, officers were called to the 44000 block of Indian Canyon, which is located just south of the intersection of Deep Canyon and Fred Waring Dr.

There, they learned a resident had returned home from the store to find two teenagers burglarizing his home while members of his family were sleeping.

He said he chased one of them a short distance before the teenager pulled out a weapon and robbed him of his cell phone and wallet before running off.

Officers set up a perimeter and located the suspect in the back yard of a nearby residence near Goleta and Deep Canyon, where they found several items that they said connected him to the crime. The teenager had been charged with similar crimes in the past, Florez said.

A short time later, officers arrested a 17-year-old who lived in Palm Desert after they connected him as the second suspect.

Investigators were left searching for the weapon the teen allegedly used and some of the stolen property.

The Palm Desert Police Department wants anyone who has any information regarding this incident, or who locates the weapon, to immediately contact the Palm Desert Police at (760) 836-1600 or Crime Stoppers at (760) 341-STOP.
