Sky Valley Home Featured In TV’s ‘Hoarders’ Burns Down

By the time the first firefighters arrived on scene Friday, a 1,200-square foot home was a total loss already.

“I got woke up,” said neighbor Michael Walker. “Somebody was banging on my bedroom window telling me there’s a fire across the street.”

But, other neighbors near the property on the 17500 block of Langley Rd. said this fire was a blessing in disguise.

“There’s a long history with this home,” said Cheyenne Vandenheuvel. “Actually, it’s the best thing that could happen to this home.”

The home’s owner Lloyd Hartman was well-known in the neighborhood as a hoarder.

In fact, he was featured in an episode of the reality show “Hoarders” on the A&E Channel.

Neighbors said Hartman is in a nursing home now. His 2.5-acre property became deserted.

No one knows what –or maybe who– started the early morning fire.

“I watch this place,” said Walker. “Between me and the neighbor over here, we run people out of this place. I chase them down the road. I call the sheriff.”

It took fire crews about 30 minutes to put out the fire completely. No one was hurt.

People who knew Hartman said he helped a lot of troubled people in the past. He allowed them to stay in his extra trailers.

This time it’s Hartman who may need some help.

News Channel 3 learned Hartman’s home also was the scene of a shooting in October.

Hartman and a friend had confronted an intruder when the friend was shot. He survived, but the gunman got away.
