Wildfire Burns 5 Acres Near Corona

Riverside County firefighters stopped the spread of a wildland fire burning in the southern area of Corona on Monday.

A fire department spokesperson said the fire was burning near the intersection of Park Canyon Road, west of Dawson Canyon Road. That’s located in the hills east of Interstate 15.

The first engines to arrive just before 1 p.m. reported five acres had burned in light grasses, and the fire was progressing at a slow rate.

Twenty minutes later, crews confirmed they had stopped the fire from progressing. They estimated it would take another 2 hours before the fire was completely extinguished.

By 2:40 p.m., the fire was completely contained.

More than four dozen firefighters and one helicopter crew responded to the blaze, which started for unknown reasons.
