Brush Fire Breaks Out Near Lake Perris
A brush fire broke out today along the northern boundary of the Lake Perris State Recreation Area and scorched 52 acres before it was contained.
The blaze was reported around 11:15 a.m. near Via Del Lago Road, north of the lake, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
Flames were not far from campgrounds, but apparently did not reach any of them.
Nine engine crews and two hand crews, numbering about 60 personnel, spent about 45 minutes battling the fire before getting it under control.
They were expected to remain at the scene, watching for potential flare- ups, for several hours, according to the fire department.
The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
