Excessive Heat Warning Issued For Eastern Riverside County
The National Weather Service has issued as excessive heat warning for the eastern portion of Riverside County.
The warning extends from 10 a.m. on Tuesday until 8 p.m., and comes very close to the Coachella Valley.
Residents in the areas of Chiriaco Summit, Desert Center, Blythe, Brawley, Calexico and El Centro need to be prepared for temperatures to reach a possible high of 115 degrees.
“Slightly higher humidity may cause high temperatures to be a couple degrees or so lower than what occurred (Monday), and fall just below warning thresholds,” said the warning issued by the NWS. “The cumulative effects of the excessive heat warrant the issuance of the heat warning.”
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside, said the NWS. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water. If you wear a wide-brimmed hat, your head and body will be much cooler.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the occupational safety and health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency, call 9 1 1.
