Sheriff Reassigns Two-Thirds Of SAFE Team

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Dept. announced it will reassign two-thirds of the Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement task force on Wednesday, leaving only three sworn deputies keeping the team going.

The move came as part of a massive wave of budget cuts sweep through the department.

The SAFE team conducts follow-up visits, monitors and investigates sex offenders living in the county.

Word of the cuts came about two weeks after the sheriff presented his budget plan to county supervisors stating that members from the SAFE team could be reassigned to other positions within the department.

The six deputies will be reassigned to patrol duties in late July.

There’s no word on how the cuts will affect the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office, which also has a staff dedicated to SAFE.
