Brush Fire Near Banning Fully Contained

Riverside County firefighters worked hard on Wednesday to contain a fast-moving brush fire near Banning.

The fire was reported at West Indian School Lane and N. 8th Street around 2 p.m., and it was 100 percent contained at around 8 p.m.

When firefighters arrived, only about 4 acres had been scorched.

By 4 p.m. the fire had blossomed to 40 acres with 50 percent containment, according to fire department spokesperson Melody Hendrickson.

The fire sparked in the mountains near a neighborhood, but it did not threaten any structures or power lines.

At the height of the fire’s involvement, about 266 firefighters were called to the seen in temperatures hovering in the 90s.

The San Diego, Riverside and San Bernadino County Fire Departments as well as the U.S. Forest Service assisted Cal Fire on fighting the blaze.

Helicopters, airtankers and Inmate hand crews slowed the spread of the fire.

There were no injuries.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
