Palm Springs Power Run Record Win Streak to 20 Games
The Palm Springs Power haven’t lost in July. They didn’t exactly lose much in June either. The Power won their 20th consecutive baseball game on Wednesday night to continue a memorable, record-breaking run.
At Palm Springs Stadium, the Power defeated the visiting Arroyo Seco Saints, 6-2. The victory gave the POWER a franchise record 20th straight victory.
Palm Desert High graduate Nick Baker (SO, California State University, Chico) started the game for Palm Springs and pitched effectively, surrendering just one run in the 2nd inning. Baker won his eighth decision of the season.
The POWER trailed 1-0 early, but regained the lead quickly. In the bottom of the third, Zack Haley (SR, Liberty University) reached base on an error, Frankie Torres (JR, Riverside City College) followed with a single, and Jose Garcia (SO, College of the Desert) walked to load the bases. Sean Flanagan (SR, University of Iowa) was then hit by a pitch that scored Haley from third and kept the bases full. Later in the inning, Hank Yates (JR, Undecided) hit a monster 2-RBI double, scoring Torres and Garcia to give the POWER a 3-1 lead.
In the fourth, Palm Springs tacked on an additional two runs on a passed ball by the Saints? catcher. In the bottom half of the fifth, Yates would come around to score again on another passed ball, giving the POWER a lead of 6-1. Arroyo Seco managed to put up one more run in the top of the eighth, but it was not enough to secure a comeback.
The winning decision for Baker improved his season record to 8-0. Offensively, the POWER heroes were Haley and Flanagan. Liberty University?s Haley scored twice and hit a triple in the seventh. Flanagan reached base in every plate appearance, including a POWER season-high four hit-by-pitches. Flanagan also added two stolen bases.
On Friday night at 7:05 PM, the POWER will begin a three-game set with the San Francisco Seagulls.
