5-Year Old Boy Killed In Bicycle Accident

(CNS) – A 5-year-old boy hit by a car as he rode his bicycle in Desert Hot Springs was taken off life support, it was announced Sunday.

The boy’s name was unavailable from the Riverside County coroner’s office.

He was riding with his father and friends about 8:45 p.m. Thursday when he went ahead of the group and was struck while crossing Palm Drive, between Caminos Campesino and Aventura, police said.

He was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, then to Loma Linda University Medical Center. The boy was not wearing a helmet, police said.

The driver, who police only identified as a female, remained at the scene and was cooperative. She was not suspected of speeding or driving while intoxicated, according to police.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and any witnesses to the incident are urged to call the Desert Hot Springs department at (760) 329-2904.
