Palm Springs Mayor To Announce Political Future

Palm Springs Mayor Steve Pougnet will announce plans for his political future this morning, a city spokeswoman said.

Pougnet will address friends and supporters at 11 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency Suites, 285 N. Palm Canyon Drive.

In a statement on Wednesday, he thanked people for their support in the last eight years.

“After much thought and consideration with my family, I have made a decision on my future plans,” he wrote.

Pougnet, who has been mayor of Palm Springs since 2007, failed last November to defeat Rep. Mary Bono Mack, R-Palm Springs, for the 45th Congressional District seat.
