Fiery Crash In High Desert Kills Two People

Two people died in a fiery crash up in Twentynine Palms early Saturday morning.

It happened just after 1:30 a.m., at Luckie Park along Utah Trail.

San Bernardino Sheriff’s Deputies say the driver of a Nissan 350Z was speeding down the road, when he lost control and crashed through a chain-link fence surrounding the park. The car kept going, clipping a tree and spinning around, then slamming sideways into another tree. The car then burst into flames.

People nearby tried to help the driver and a passenger trapped inside the burning wreckage, but the flames and heat kept them from reaching them.

By the time fire crews were able to put out the fire, both victims had already died. Their names have not been released.

No word on whether alcohol or drugs played a factor. Sheriff’s Deputies are still investigating.
