Bus Passengers Checked For Heat Exhaustion

Firefighters from Cal Fire and Riverside County Fire Department checked out 49 passengers on a Greyhound bus that broke down on Interstate 10 on Tuesday afternoon.

The disabled bus was forced to the side of the freeway, ten miles east of Dillon Road, just before 1 p.m., according to Cheri Patterson with the Riverside County Fire Department.

All of the passengers were being assessed for the signs of heat exhaustion as they waited in the sun alongside the interstate for help.

No one was taken to the hospital for treatment.

By 2:20 p.m., all of them had been transported by Sun Line buses to the Indio Public Library, where they were waiting for a replacement bus to arrive from Los Angeles, Patterson said.

The incident happened in temperatures of 100-degrees and on the same day Riverside County issued a heat warning for residents, opening the doors to cool centers throughout the area.
