Crime Prevention Behind National Night Out

Residents of neighborhoods around Desert Hot Springs are expected to participate in the 28th annual National Night Out tonight.

The nationwide event, aimed at reducing crime and strengthening community and law enforcement relationships, is sponsored by the Desert Hot Springs Police Department and National Association of Town Watch.

Residents are asked to “lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police,” said Desert Hot Springs Police Community Resource Specialist Jim Knabb.

Residents are encouraged to hold flashlight walks, anti-crime rallies and other activities, he said.

Businesses, groups and residents participating are encouraged to contact the police department so officers can meet them, he said.

For information, call Knabb at (760) 329-6411, ext. 340, or visit their website by clicking here.
