Government Approves Free Birth Control For Women

The Health and Human Services Department approved free birth control pills for women today.

This means insurance companies must offer this and other free preventative services for pregnancy.

Some women have been waiting for this for years.

The president of the National Organization for Women says “we have been working on issues for birth control for women since 1966.”

“It seems like forever,” she said. “So today is a very significant forward advance for women and birth control.”

One mother thinks this law is necessary, saying “I feel like we’re responsible for when we’re pregnant and 90 percent of the time no one helps us out and I think that’s a great thing that we can prevent unwanted pregnancy without doing anything drastic.”

Still, conservatives think this comes at the wrong time.

The former president of the Republican Lincoln Group, Nancy DeLuna, says “our economy is on the brink of international disaster . We have soldiers overseas defending our lives that are afraid they aren’t going to get their next check, we have people on Social Security that are not only afraid they’re not going to get their check, but they haven’t got a cost of living increase for two years.”

Supporters say children shouldn’t be brought into this world unless they are wanted, thus saying birth control should be free for all women. The opposition says there are more important issues to be taken care of now.
