Coachella Valley Rescue Mission Helps Keep Cool

The Coachella Valley Rescue Mission is helping people stay cool during the extreme summer heat.

It?s part of its “90 Days Of Summer Relief” fundraising campaign.

Their so-called Love Van makes its way through the valley every couple of weeks, distributing things like water, sunscreen, long sleeved shirts, hats and even shoes to those in need.

In the hot months, the purpose of the Love Van is to encourage the homeless to visit the mission and get the help they need.

?It’s not who you think might be here ,? said the mission?s Greg Fisher. ?It’s laid off school teachers; it’s individuals that have been cut back on hours; or maybe they had a health, or an accident in their family and they just need some extra help.”

?It helps out, but you know what a lot of people need is work,? said Marcie Sholler, who is getting help from the mission. ?They need a job and income, because you can’t get off your feet unless you have that, and that’s the help that I really need.”
