Excessive Heat Warning Issued for Coachella Valley

An excessive heat warning is in effect until 8 p.m. today for parts of Southern California and Arizona, according to the National Weather Service.

The area under the warning encompasses eastern Riverside County, including the deserts and lower Colorado River Valley. Highs should reach 111 to 114, NWS meteorologists said.

People should avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the day and wear light clothing, a wide-brimmed hat and drink lots of water. Those working outside should take frequent breaks and call 911 if someone suffers heat stroke, according to an NWS advisory.
