High Desert Burglars Target Unlocked Cars
Deputies are warning residents in the high desert to lock their cars after 20 break-ins in a three-week span. The San Bernardino Sheriff’s Office describes the crew of burglars as methodical and brazen. Most of the 20 break-ins have occurred during the day.
Jeff Jenson found his truck broken into by the burglars a week ago.
“They came in through the door here. Everything was spread all over the place,” said Jenson.
The burglars only target unlocked cars in ritzy areas. All 20 burglaries have happened in the Sky Harbor, Western Hills and Blue Skies Country Club neighborhoods.
“Beware. They’re out there. Make sure to lock their doors,” said Randy Vander Weerf a victim of the burglaries.
Once the burglars get in, they’ll grab anything in sight in the short amount of time they’re in the car. They like laptops, phones and spare change.
No one has gotten a good look at the thieves or their getaway car. San Bernardino sheriff’s deputies say witnesses say there are several people in the crew. One to two people act as lookouts and at least one person waits in a vehicle.
