Mercy Air Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing Near Salton Sea

A two-person Mercy Air medical transport crew was unhurt after making an emergency landing today near the Salton Sea, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

There were no patients aboard the helicopter, which set down about 10:45 a.m. in the unincorporated county area of Oasis, Riverside County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Angel Ramos said.

“Everyone’s OK,” he said. “It was just a precautionary landing.”

Ramos referred inquiries for flight and mechanical details to Mercy Air officials, who could not immediately be reached for comment.

It was unclear why the helicopter had to land, where it came from or where it was going. Mercy Air’s Riverside County bases are in Twentynine Palms, Banning and Thermal, according to its website.
