CHP Officer Taken To Hospital After Patrol Car Collides With Semi

A California Highway Patrol officer was transported to a local hospital after his patrol car was hit by a semi truck on Tuesday.

Another officer on the scene told News Channel 3 the deputy tried to cross Highway 111, just south of Johnson Street in Mecca around 12:30 p.m., when his car was hit by the truck.

The extent of the officer’s injuries weren’t immediately known; however, the KESQ was told he was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs be checked out by doctors.

We’ve learned he suffered minor injuries.

A K9 officer who was also in the patrol car was taken to a veterinarian to be examined, as well.

A hazardous materials team was on the scene mopping up a diesel fuel spill that happened as a result of the accident.

The CHP will investigate the circumstances to see who may have been at fault.
